A data buoy for measuring coastal wave-action has been designed and constructed. The is essentially a 0.6 m diameter sphere that made of fiber-glass with aluminum, steel polymer parts. While the overall geometry superficially similar to existing commercial spherical buoys (e.g. Wave-Rider by Datawell), present design based on simple robust structure mass-market electronics. significant dual-use feature this usable as float in wave-energy generation device. This possible due isolated central an electronics enclosure sealed both from external environment bulk shell buoy. also allows be mounted easily- modified, rack configuration can removed shell. In set-up would cylinder will become part linear-motion type generator, at least +/- 25 cm internal movement available it waterproof (for near surface or shallow immersions).
